Aquatic Therapy

Healing Waters

The diagnosis of chronic disease such as Diabetes, Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's and Cancer used to be followed by advice to "take it easy" and rest. Research confirms that exercise can strengthen the immune system and promote healing. Certain conditions and special populations respond best to activity in an aquatic environment.

Water has the potential to soothe discomfort associated with a variety of joint disorders. Warm water in particular can have a positive effect on range of motion, core stability, mild cardiovascular conditioning, flexibility, balance and muscular endurance capabilities.

Aquatic therapy within the Destiny Wellness Program is appropriate as a rehabilitation or post-rehabilitation exercise program to develop the various aspects of health and functional capabilities. Therapy would be provided as an individual session  ensuring appropriate individualization and progression.

When aquatic therapy is being initiated as a rehabilitation program outcome measures and assessment are used. Accurate and relevant progress reports are available upon request to the treating physician or other treating health care professional.

Aquatic therapy is provided by an experienced and certified Kinesiologist (and/or CALA certified rehabilitation specialist). Aquatic therapy would be appropriate for those recovering from an MVA (motor vehicle accident), stroke, musculoskeletal injury or surgery, or for those with medical conditions such as fibromyalgia or arthritis.
